Carbohydrate

  • Carbohydrates act as the main source of energy.
  • Carbohydrate can be classified into three principal group which are monosaccharide (eg : glucose, fructose, galactose), dissacharide (eg : sucrose, lactose, maltose) and polysaccharides ( eg: starch and fibre).
  • According to the Recommended Nutrient Intakes (2018), carbohydrates comprising some of 40 – 80 % of total energy intake (TEI).
  • Example of carbohydrate-containing foods such as grain, legumes, vegetables and whole fruits.
