Body Mass Index (BMI) is a person’s weight in kilograms divided by the square of height in meters. A high BMI can be an indicator of high body fatness. BMI can be used to screen for weight categories that may lead to health problems but it is not diagnostic of the body fatness or health of an individual.
BMI CLASSIFICATION

Why The Number Is Important
A body mass index in the low range signals that you could be malnourished. Maybe your body isn’t properly absorbing nutrients or maybe you’re just not getting enough calories to support your activity level. Conversely, having a BMI on the higher end alerts you about risks of getting heart disease, diabetes and certain cancers are higher than someone with a normal BMI.
